Be a Club Coach!

The objective of the Club Coach program is to help struggling clubs become Distinguished Clubs by providing guidance and support. Some of the specifics are:

  • The club will have 12 or fewer members at the time of appointment
  • Up to two coaches may be appointed to each club
  • The coaches may not be members of the club at the time of appointment (the coaches typically join after being assigned)
  • The assignment lasts to the end of the current club year if the club reaches distinguished status or better, or the end of the subsequent club year if Distinguished Club status or better is not reached in the first year
  • Credit toward Distinguished Toastmaster is awarded upon successful completion
  • A certificate will be sent to the club coaches upon successful completion
  • Districts are asked to publicly acknowledge appointments and successes

Club Coaches don’t run the club – they just support the members who are doing the work and will get the credit for success. Club Coaches get their own guidance from district leaders.

Be a Club Mentor!

Are you an enthusiastic, experienced Toastmaster who has served as a Club Officer and earned at least a Competent Communication Award? If so, consider becoming a Club Mentor to further develop your leadership skills.

What Does a Club Mentor Do?

A Club Mentor works with a club and its members for at least six months to guide and assist a newly chartered club. This guidance and assistance includes:

  • Attending regular club meetings, filling meeting roles to set an example for club members.
  • Serving as a resource person to the club for any questions they have about meeting procedures or Toastmasters guidelines.
  • Ensuring that Club Officers understand the Distinguished Club Program and how it serves the needs of club members. Providing samples of Club Success Plans or helping officers develop the Club Success Plan.
  • Explaining the Toastmasters educational program.
  • Coaching Club Officers on their roles and responsibilities.
  • Encouraging Club Officers to participate in District activities.
  • Keeping District Officers informed of the club’s progress.

Why Do We Have Club Mentors?

The District’s mission is to enhance the performance of clubs and extend the network of clubs, thereby offering greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program.  Once a club is chartered, a Club Mentor helps the club get off to a good start, emphasizing those things that will make the club a success.

You may be asking yourself, “What’s in it for me?” While no two of us are exactly alike, here are some ways that being a Club Mentor may benefit you.

  • Practice leadership skills with a group of people over whom you have no authority. This is a truer indicator of your leadership than in situations where you have position power.
  • Gain satisfaction from helping others meet their personal goals.
  • Get recognition from district officers as they show appreciation for your efforts.
  • Earn credit toward Distinguished Toastmaster award recognition.
  • Gain satisfaction from leaving a legacy of a healthy, thriving Toastmasters Club.

Be a Club Sponsor!

Are you an enthusiastic, experienced Toastmaster who has served as a Club Officer and earned at least a Competent Communicator award? If so, consider becoming a Club Sponsor to further develop your leadership skills.

What Does a Club Sponsor Do?

A Club Sponsor guides and assists a newly forming club until it receives its charter. This guidance and assistance includes the following:

  • Show the group interested in forming the Toastmasters Club what they need to do.
  • Alleviate any remaining doubts they may have.
  • Help the group establish regular club meetings.
  • Fill meeting roles to set an example for club members.
  • Assist the group in selecting interim Club Officers. Ensure that these officers understand their responsibilities.
  • Work with the club to establish ongoing recruitment efforts.
  • Ensure that interim Club Officers understand the requirements for chartering their club.
  • Assist the Club Officers in completing the charter paperwork.
  • Serve as a resource person to the club for any questions they have about meeting procedures or Toastmasters guidelines.
  • Keep District Officers informed of the club’s progress. Ask for a Club Mentor as soon as the club approaches charter strength.
